Spectre Creates Slots Rival

Enthusiasm stirs at a Minnesota based game company as they prepare to release their new slot machine.  This new game design is for a skill based slot machine, a format that will be accepted under Florida Law. 

Under Florida law, amusement games that offer prizes or redemption are permitted throughout the state so long as the games meet certain prerequisites and are operated in particular establishments.  Although Florida Law does not specify “skill”, an essential prerequisite is that the games must be games of skill.   

The independent lab that certifies games in New Jersey affirm that Spectre Gaming Inc. of Minneapolis, Minnesota produce such skill based slot games. 

Nick Farley & Associates provides multiple test services, including regulatory compliance tests and electronic gaming device consulting.  For almost two decades, they have tested electronic equipment for the gaming, vending, and amusement industry.  Their services are invaluable among regulated jurisdictions like Florida.

The games operate very much like a slot machine; however it is up to the player which lines count as payoff lines.  Russell Mix, a spokesperson for Spectre, says that as players begin to study outcomes and manipulate reels and lines on the screen, skilled player will increase their winning percentage.

Broward and Palm Beach county venues are already operating test games for Spectre.  Spectre is looking to expand in other Florida counties, such as Pinellas and Hillsborough. 

Discussing the future of the games, Mix says, “We are doing this on a county by county basis because Florida doesn't have a central agency that oversees this business.”

There are a plague of over 20,000 gaming devices operating in state of Florida.  The police and sheriff departments are constantly finding and confiscating devices that do not pass skill tests, says Mix.

Before Spectre installs any games, Mix says his company meets with local authorities and briefs them on the games skill components.  The primary venue aims for Spectre are bingo halls and arcades.
