Can the Iowa Lottery Find Their Own Remedy?

As the 60 day moratorium on the Iowa Lottery's TouchPlay continues, the Lottery is exploring their own game regulation options with its manufactures.  State Governor Tom Vilsack put the moratorium into effect a few days ago to allow a task force to investigate whether TouchPlay consoles may need to be regulated as slot machines.

Multimedia Games Inc. manufactures TouchPlay machines out of Austin Texas.  They are currently in the planning stages for the installation of license reading equipment on the games.  Multimedia Games will attempt to equip ten games with the ability to read driver’s license information.  The test is to see how well the equipment will interface with the already existing machines.

Multimedia Games Inc. is but one of four companies that manufacture the TouchPlay product for the Iowa Lottery.  The Iowa Lottery is currently exploring more options with its three other manufactures.

The Iowa Lottery began their TouchPlay operation back in May 2003, after receiving full approval from the Iowa Legislature.
